'a short stay' in Arnhem

Invitation

The title of the show refers to two fictional addresses of two late homes of mine, in Baltimore and in Rotterdam, a temporary one and a more permanent one. In the exhibition there are two rooms and each room relates to one of these places.

Rosestraat 946

Rosestraat is my current home. This is where I sleep, watch TV, eat eggs, hang and where I also organize exhibitions. This is where I have thoughts about things I would like to make or things I have made. This is where I store my artworks that never get sold. This is where I once got dumped and it was hard to swallow saliva through my throat. This is a place of joy and a place of sorrow, of lightness and weight, of gravity and grace. In this room, I'll show an ensemble of photo albums, self-released books and a book maquette from the last 5 years. One of the projects I will show in this room is 'Community Albums', a 700 images album in five chapters that echoes my relationship to people between November 2016 and June 2018. It's the things I did and the things I saw, the people I was seeing the most and the people I worked with, the ex's and the future lovers, the old friends and the new friends.
World of echo, Part 1 (2015)
World of Echo, Part 3 (2015)
Iphigenia or A Girl for the Wind (2016)
Paralysis (2016)
Community Albums (2018)
SLIDES (a maquette from 2019)
Personal Album Rotterdam (2019)
Almost every picture of Josh (2019)

649 N. Rose Road

649 N. Rose Road is a place that felt home for a little while. It is also the name of the second room as well as the title of the film that will screen every hour. The mid-length film chronicles the beginnings of a relationship between myself and artist Mary P. in Baltimore. It's a snappy collage of moving images recorded in 'Charm City' that interconnect with one another. It is about romance and the intensity of new relations, about light and beliefs, about sobriety and simplicity. Ghislain Amar
